As many of our wonderful clients are aware the Homemade Design offices are actually located on an active construction site, the historic 1850′s townhome my husband and I are renovating in Boston Massachusetts.

Our home is nicknamed ‘the Haunted Mansion’ for reasons we’ll whisper only late at night in dimly lit rooms.  It’s occupied by yours truly, my wonderful husband, two Siberian Huskies and on most days visiting members of our illustrious design team.

As we’ve progressed through the renovation we’ve uncovered wallpaper, wallpaper and more wallpaper!  Even some original paper from the mid 1800′s!  This blue brown beauty pictured behind me below lines a two-story addition added to the home around 1940 and is one of the last remnants waiting to be peeled.

Its a running joke around here that the Parlor often looks as though a fabric factory exploded!  We store the over 1,000 fabric samples that have been digitized and loaded into our online design library in built-in cabinets that we believe were added sometime between 1920 and 1949.

Recently we welcomed the ever lovely Kim Lucian, a professional photographer and writer for Apartment Therapy, and gave her the grand tour. She snapped all of these pictures that we thought gave an interesting inside and somewhat artsy look at our work in progress.  The walls in these pictures behind the color chips are the original horse-hair plaster!

Next time you receive your HMD fabric samples you’ll have an idea of where we pull them all together – inside the 150 year old Italianate-Victorian pile of plaster and brick we call home!
